Beet Yourself Up

Botanically known as Beta vulgaris, the beet evolved from their wild ancestor known as sea beet, which is native to the coast of Europe, Northern Africa, and Southern Asia. The root was carrot shaped and during early times the beet greens were eaten rather than the roots.

The ancient Romans were mostly interested in beets for medicine, however they are believed to be one of the first civilizations to cultivate beetroot for food.

Something To Think About

Aging is a part of life and getting older can increase the risk of many age-related health problems.  We can grow old gracefully by taking care of our health, or we can neglect our health, become sick, and suffer from age-related health conditions.

Back To School Basics

It’s that time of year again when parents are preparing to get their kids back to school.  For some parents it will be a much-anticipated time.  There is even a commercial on television singing, “it’s the most wonderful time of the year”.   I don’t know about that as I do not have any children, but I do know one thing.  Children need to have proper nutrition.

What Side Are You On?

Do you know disease can only survive in an acidic environment? Do you also know our body struggles to maintain a steady pH (acid-alkaline) balance of our body fluids?

Every second, minute, and hour of each and every day there is a struggle going on inside each and every one of us to keep things running smoothly, and the key to vibrant health and wellness is keeping our pH in balance.

You may be wondering what pH balance is. Well, pH is the abbreviation for ‘potential of hydrogen’ and is a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. It is measured on a scale that ranges from 0 to 14. The lower the pH the more acidic the solution, and the higher the pH the more alkaline the solution. When a solution is neither acid nor alkaline it has a pH of 7, which is neutral.

Tomatoes Are Nutritious And Delicious

It’s only the middle of July and some of our tomato plants are already over five feet tall and bearing fruit.  The tomatoes are not yet ready to eat, but by this time next week we may very well be enjoying fresh, organic tomatoes again right from our garden.

I refer to the tomato plants as ‘ours’ but I should really say they are my husband Wayne’s babies.  He spends much time with the ‘girls’ making sure they are comfortable and have just the right amount of fresh water to drink.  He gently puts stakes around them to keep them from falling and ties their delicate branches with special ties as not to hurt or damage them.  I think it is all the care he takes with his ‘girls’ is why we have such an abundant harvest of tomatoes every year.  And what an abundance it is!

Berry Delicious

Fresh berry season is here and what better way to get healthful nutrients in our diet than to eat delicious fresh berries.

Not only do these tiny little fruit taste great, berries pack an enormous portion of nutrients, and including them in your diet will help to keep you healthy.

As a matter of fact, you may be surprised to find out just how beneficial these small powerhouses are for your health.

More Peas Please

Delicious and Nutritious Peas
I just love fresh peas.  As a matter of fact, I would have to say fresh peas are my favorite food and I guarantee, they will never see a pot of boiling water.  Fresh peas are my choice of snack food all summer long.  As sweet and delicious as they are, did you know peas are a really good source of protein?

Protein is an essential nutrient vital for good health.  Our skin, hair, nails, muscles and brain cells are just some of our body parts that are protein based, and after water, protein is the most plentiful substance in our bodies.

Meatless Monday vs Meat On Monday

There is a movement spreading across the globe called “Meatless Monday” and more and more people are becoming increasingly aware of the environmental impact their food choices are making.

It seems the program first originated during the First World War when Americans were encouraged by the US Food and Drug Administration to reduce their consumption of key staples to help the war effort.

A Networkers Dream

My husband Wayne and myself have been promoting whole food concentrates and nutritional supplements for over twenty-four years now with the same network marketing company.  It has, and continues to be, a very rewarding experience and one we contribute to our great health.

The Internet is here to stay and is “the” way of doing business.   It’s a huge market with millions of people – every single day – looking for ways to work from home, make money online, and secure their financial future.

The Facts On Flax

Flax seed oil is the richest source of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a member of the omega -3 essential fatty acid family.  Because our body is unable to manufacture essential fatty acids (EFAs), they must be consumed through our diet.  Here are just a few of the health benefits of omega -3 essential fatty acids.

What Your Doctor Doesn’t Tell You About Cholesterol

Last Christmas, we once again had the pleasure of seeing friends and family and enjoying a different kind of holiday celebration by visiting a Chinese buffet.  This is our second year of doing something a little different from the usual holiday feast, and everyone agrees, it is a great way to get together without all the fuss.

Our small group consists of six friends and family and throughout our conversations that day two of the six people told me they were taking cholesterol lowering drugs, and a third was in the queue to start taking them as well.  Now I’m no mathematician, but that is three out of the six taking the same prescription drug.  Wow, fifty percent just in our small group is relying on a drug that diet alone could make a significant impact on whether they need that drug or not.  And what I found most unusual, was they said their cholesterol level wasn’t that high.  It was actually just a tad over what the experts advise it should be.
